Moniales Bénédictines's Choir of Argentan

During a mass, we search for calmness and serenity, guided by Argentan’s cloistered nuns’ voices. It is a contrasted world where enthusiasm and interiority go together, a paradoxical world where music blossoms in silence. For Benedictine Sisters, Gregorien Chant is « the privileged means of celebrating God’s praises. This charachter of spirituality and contemplation is reinforced by the simplicity of the musical instruments. Besides, this monodic chant highlights the unity of all its interpreters’ voices in unison. »

Notre-Dame's Abbey of Argentan...

The Abbey of Almenèches, transferred to Argentan in the 18th century, is one of the oldest abbeys of women in France, with Poitiers and Jouarre. Its origins are quite obscure, the oldest records dating from the 12th century. Always modest, the abbey has passed through centuries and many vicissitudes, with however two interruptions: for a century and a half, after the Vikings invasions in the 9th century, and for 30 years after the Revolution.
