Le Tahiti of Gacé...

When the war of 1939-45 was over, and normal relations could be established between the mother country and what were then called its colonies, it was suggested to these distant territories to adopt a disastrous city of France.
Gacé, the first town of the damaged Orne, could therefore be "adopted"...
Now, it happened that Mr. Alexis Bienvenu, the father of the mayor of Gacé, just elected in 1945, had just returned from Tahiti. He left in 1938 to "live the adventure" and had not been able to return to France because of the declaration of war. So it was during seven years that he lived there, and that he made a lot of relations... Alexis Bienvenu was an effective lawyer. And... Gacé was adopted by Tahiti.
